Technology

The fact that Silicon Valley hasn’t cultivated more diverse ideas is quite remarkable. I think it is so strange that the model they use to identify new opportunities, “What problem does your product solve,” is built around white privilege, a group who faces the least obstacles. If real innovators really wanted to broaden product development, you’d think they would ask the group of people who have most of the problems.

I tried to break through the white, male dominated technology space. Most of them would not even return my call. One Venture Capitalists met with me and felt I had something to offer. Then, he disappeared. I am sure he allowed his peers to influence him. What could a Black woman possibly offer them. But, here is what they are missing: diverse candidates not only know the problems humans face, they often know the solutions too. Women and people of color had to break systems down to find a way around them, always envisioning new designs. I’ve tons of product ideas. Just like I am sure many other people like me have them too. Like always, if they won’t let me play with them, I’ll make my own fun.

I’ve been working my own ideas into existence, building teams around my innovations. Silicon Valley’s elite have no idea what they are missing and what I’ve uncovered. They will see very soon.
