Attitude Adjustment

My mom use to say, “If you don’t like the way something is going, get involved and be a part of positive change. Otherwise, change your attitude.” As I interact with the world and all of its complexities, ideas come out of necessity—or sometimes, irritation. I have so much on my mind and don’t know where to put it all. I’m only human, and I can’t address everything. But, there are issues and systems that need attention.

I’ll put all of my extra thoughts here, hoping others can appreciate my vision and run with it. This is my “attitude” adjustment space, a place to share issues and ideas that I can’t get to right now. I hope someone else can get the ball rolling. It’s our collective talents that make the world a better place. Visit this space often. Life hits me with something new every day. There is a lot to clean up in society.

Let me know if you have an “Attitude Adjustment” you’d like me to list.

Standardized Tests

We all know now that many standardized tests are bias. I’ve been a victim of these tools many times, the assessment measuring skills and abilities of white people, versus a collective pool of diverse talent. The creators of these tests probably couldn’t pass my tests. They’d have to maneuver a multitude of obstacles to be successful. My challenges have made me more skilled and knowledgeable in many areas of life. I’m better because of my adversities. Varsity Blues, College Board alleged scandals and more, have revealed problems in this system. I wish I can get into this because it is important. I plan to address education issues overall. I’ll invite anyone who can tackle this monster to the Education Think Tank one day.

Comcast Cable Company

I am concerned about Comcast Cable Company, or is it Xfinity? It’s not clear and that is part of the problem. I see their company like this garage: it is sort of organized, but it's messy, probably hard to find anything quickly, organized chaos. I can tell from my engagement with them that there is a lot not working. I’ve tried to tell the leadership via letters and calls. What are they doing with my, “recorded calls for quality and training purposes?” I was so desperate I even once offered free organizational development help. They ignored my gift. But, they have a mess on their hands. Can someone please help me, help us all, by helping them?

Hotel Housekeeping

I’ve travelled all over the world and the single greatest irritant that I’ve regularly been exposed to is obtrusive housekeeping. They have their schedule and they stick to it. They don’t care that their plans may interrupt my leisurely morning. The Four Seasons in Scottsdale Arizona has it figured out. Every hotel needs to follow that model. When you check in, they ask you, “What time would you like your room serviced.” Bingo! I never saw housekeeping. I left them huge tips acknowledging my respect for their work and their respect for my privacy. So simple. Every hotel should find a scheduling model that fits guests’ need, not management’s needs. It’s one of those thinking about people versus economics issues.
